TM 5-3895-374-108.Surge Bin Tear Down Procedures(See Figures 2-8, 2-9, 2-10 and 2-11)ItemProcedure1Ensure all aggregate mix has been removed from the slat conveyor, surge bin and batcher.2Using a crane, tilt the bypass chute into the transport position and installthe bolt in the bottom of the chute.3Remove the bolts holding the top section of the chute and lower this intothe transport position on the platform. Bolt for transport.4Remove feed hopper onto the rear of the main chassis for transport.5Start the surge bin hydraulic system.6Remove the four corner pins holding the hopper in the operating position(extend the hydraulic cylinders slightly to remove the weight off the pins).7Lower the bin by operating the center and right control valve leverssimultaneously. Carefully observe the cylinder retraction to ensure thatthe bin is lowering equally at all four corners.8When the bin has been lowered to the transport position, reinsert the fourcorner pins.9Open the front and rear bin doors.10Remove the platform handrail and store for transport.11Remove the conveyor handrail sections that must be removed fortransport (at the head end and where the conveyor steps fold.)12Fold the conveyor steps and bolt for transport.13Remove the top pins from the upper telescoping conveyor supportstructure.14Remove the two conveyor support pins from their location at the rear ofthe chassis (use the conveyor hydraulic lift cylinders to remove thepressure on these pins).15Use the left side hydraulic control lever and retract the conveyor liftcylinders by pushing the lever.16The conveyor will slowly pivot around its support and lower into thetransport position. (Closely observe movement of conveyor to ensurenothing obstructs the operation.)page 2 - 64
