TM 5-3895-368-14&Pb. Disassembly.(1)Remove locknut (9) and shaft (21) thatsecures the reel (17). Remove reel, thrustwasher (15), and spacer (16).(2)If necessary, remove the hex nut (20),clamp (19) and carriage bolt (18).(3)Note how spring (14) engages the hole inbase (8), and hooks onto the ratchet pawl(12). Remove locknut (9), bolt (10),washer (11), pawl (12), spring (14), andbushing (13).(4)Secure drive shaft (30) and removelocknut (24), spring (25) and thread handle(22) counter-clockwise off the shaft.(5)Remove retaining ring (31) and slide driveshaft (30) through the bushing (32) toallow removal of washer (27), ratchetwheel (28), and pressure plate (29).(6)Push flanged bushing (32) from hole inbase (8) and tip drive shaft (30) to removefrom base. Inspection.(1)Inspect bushings (13, 26, and 32) for wearor other damage.(2)Inspect faces of pressure plate (29) andmating faces of ratchet wheel (28) anddrive shaft (30) for scoring orcontamination with lubricant.(3)Inspect threads on all threaded parts forstripped threads or other damage.(4)Inspect ratchet wheel (28), drive shaft (30)and reel (17) for deformed or missingteeth.(5)Inspect tip of pawl (12) for wear that wouldprevent it from catching securely onratchet wheel (28).(6)Replace any part found defective in anyway.e. Assembly.CAUTIONDo not allow grease or oil to get onfaces of pressure plate (29) or itsmating faces of ratchet wheel (28)and drive shaft (30). Brake will fail tohold load if these surfaces arecontaminated with lubricant.(1)Apply small amount of grease (MIL-G10924) to shaft (21), spacer (16) and toteeth of reel (17).(2)Apply a few drops of SAE 10 grade oil(MILL-2104E) to flanged bushing (26), andinstall in the large opening in side of base(8). The flange of bushing must be on theinside of the base.(3)Apply a few drops of SAE 10 grade oil(MILL-2104E) to flanged bushing (32), andinstall on drive shaft (30) with flanged sideleading.(4)Insert end of drive shaft (30) through holein base (8) opposite the large opening.Insert the shaft as far as it will go.(5)Install pressure plate over end of driveshaft (30) and seat against pressure faceof drive shaft.4-4
