The shaft assembly may be removed as one piece.13.Measure the position of each of the bearings and the sprocket on the shaft and record this on a drawing of thisassembly Follow the bearing manufacturer’s instructions In Section 3-3-13 to remove and disassemble thebearings. Note that the fixed bearing Is next to the gear box.14.If the drive sprocket or shaft is to be replaced, remove the sprocket from the shaft by loosening the setscrews. The sprocket may now be removed from the shaft.15.The two pillow block bearings and the idler shaft may now be removed. Remove the two bolts, nuts andwashers holding each of these bearings in place. Mark one bearing and Its mount so that this assembly canbe reinstalled properly. The shaft assembly may be removed as one piece.16.Measure the position of each of the bearings and the sprocket on the shaft and record this on a drawing of thisassembly Follow the bearing manufacturer’s instructions In Section 3-3-13 to remove and disassemble thebearings.17If the idler sprocket or shaft Is to be replaced, remove the sprocket from the shaft by loosening the set screwsThe sprocket may now be removed from the shaft.18.The bearing adjustment brackets may be removed by removing the bolts holding them in place.19.The chain guide under the center of the drum is removed by removing the six bolts holding it in place.20.The drum sprocket is in three segments for ease of replacement. Remove the bolts holding the sprocketsegments in place. These bolts are removed by cutting off the bolt head. Remove each sprocket section afterthe bolts holding it have been cut. Use a punch and hammer and knock the bolt stub into the drum. Removethe old hardware from the drum prior to completing the repair.B.Inspection1.Inspect all components that have been removed for wear or damage.2.Inspect the drive belts and replace the complete set if any belt is found to be damaged or broken. Check thelength of each belt in the set to determine if they are identical. Replace the belts with a matched set If one beltis found to have a different length than the others.(page 3-558)
